The weather in December is an improving picture and excellent time of year to visit the bulk of Sri Lanka, avoiding the far north and east coast. With the bulk of the rains behind us the island is a lush green, optimistic and ripe for exploration.
With all the rain of the previous months if you’d like a little soft adventure Kitulgala is an easy fit on the way up to the tea country boasting medium level white water rafting on the majestic Kelani River surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Although there still will be showers in the tea country, the scenery will be in its pomp and December signals the start of the Adam's Peak pilgrimage season that runs throughout the dry season until April.
The best beach conditions will be on the south coast and as the month develops, the west coast catches up with the return of blue skies and balmy temperatures.
