In April the balance of power starts to shift to the north and east as north east monsoon has run its course and the sun starts to dominate. As a general rule April remains one of the best months to visit and as the Sinhala & Tamil New Year falls with this month it’s a great time to see Sri Lanka at its most sociable as the country comes alive over the holiday period. It’s also the time of harvest and so when many of Sri Lanka’s fruits and crops come into season - a time of plenty that's celebrated.
Inland the temperatures are reaching their peak with the Cultural Triangle climbing into the mid-30°C’s. On the coast in early April the south coast beaches remain the favourites but as May approaches the west in particular will start to experience an increase in showers and the sunshine baton is passed to the east coast.
