October is a fantastic month to visit Myanmar, especially if you get out into the countryside as the rains subside and the hills are covered in wildflowers and lush vegetation. Perhaps the most beautiful month of the year and ideal for walkers. Tourist numbers will still be low and temperatures will be hitting early 30s°C in the main touring highlight and the mid-20s°C in the hills.
October signals the end of Buddhist Lent and at the Kyaikhtiyo Golden Rock Pagoda during the full moon day of Thadingyut you can be part of the 9,000 Lights Festival during which locals gather at the pagoda and light 9,000 candles as an offering to Buddha. This is just one of the many festivals celebrated each month in Myanmar.
