Like in a lot of South East Asia, April brings the heat, with temperatures reaching their year’s peak and hitting the high 30s°C in most regions. With no rain on the radar this is still a very popular month to tour but we would recommend that sightseeing be early and late with a long leisurely lunch. The beaches are dry and hot but river cruising is really now off the table as the rivers have dropped to their lowest levels.
Crowds flock to the country as it celebrates its New Year in the middle of the month. New Year is celebrated with a water festival, where water is splashed or poured over people as a cleansing ritual and a sign of goodwill. It lasts for several days and is a fun time to travel to the country but hotels have to be booked early, prices rise over this period and you have to be prepared to get a little wet!
