March is considered by many to be the best overall month to visit Myanmar as the whole country will be basking in hot sunshine and the morning / evening chill of the previous months in for example Bagan, Inle and Kalaw has disappeared. No rain is expected this month. However in most destinations days now hit plus 30°C, so if you don’t like it hot perhaps travel earlier in year. As this is a peak month early booking is recommended as the best hotels quickly fill up.
March also marks the Full Moon Day of Tabaung, which is a Buddhist holiday that falls on the full moon of the third month of the Burmese Calendar. The whole month of Tabaung is a time of celebration, colourful cultural events and Buddhist devotion. The biggest celebration of the year will be at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, but wherever you are in Myanmar it will be a time of celebration when Buddhist devotees go to the temple and “make merit”. A great time to be in the country.
