Cardamom Tented Camp

Medium Class Eco-Lodge

Introduction

The Cardamom Tented Camp injects much needed optimism into the future of eco-tourism in Cambodia. In conjunction with the Wildlife Alliance those lucky enough to stay here will be involved in helping with the dedicated conservation and monitoring work the camp is undertaking. Conservation is at its heart and guests accompany rangers into the forest to learn more about the native flora and fauna and external influences threatening the park, such as illegal logging, poaching and habitat destruction. Away from the work that’s being done, guests are also encouraged to kick back and enjoy the beautiful setting and explore under their own steam by kayak or on foot.

Facilities

As you can imagine life revolves around the forest, but within the camp communal life revolves around the Riverbank restaurant that sits on a raised platform overlooking the idyllic, slow-moving Preak Tachan River. Ranger guided activities include setting up camera traps to monitor local wildlife, learning survival skills in the forest, recording wildlife footprints and trails and learning about the negative influences of poaching, logging and sand dredging. You’re also encouraged to independently explore the river system by kayak or take self-guided hikes along carefully prepared trails.

Rooms

Don’t think you’ll be roughing it as the 9 tents are best described as large, safari like and well-spaced on raised platforms. They are surprising well appointed, with hotel beds, large meshed windows, fan, bathroom with hot shower and private terrace from which to admire your beautiful surroundings.
