Rainforest Eco Lodge

Grade - Medium Class Lodge

Overview

You may never have considered that you’d book a hotel that was effectively built by utilising shipping containers, but don’t let this put you off as they have been beautifully adapted with large windows and are located in one of the island’s most beautiful locations rich in endemic birdlife and tropical forest. Set on a hillside looking out towards Sinharaja’s UNESCO Biosphere it offers easy access to one of Sri Lanka’s last remaining areas of virgin rainforest. A sense of adventure and engagement will definitely help get the most from your stay, a must for bird-watchers.

Facilities

There aren’t really many “facilities” as you’re here to enjoy the rain forest. After a day wading through streams and climbing over hills relax on your veranda and listen to the sounds of the forest, then wander down to the lounge for a drink by the open fire and dine on Sri Lankan favourites in the open sided dining room. Limited WiFi in lobby.

Rooms

The 16 individual rooms are scattered across the hillside and are imaginatively re-imagined sea containers now with timber floors, rush matting lined walls and large windows. Each consists of a sleeping area furnished with double or twin beds, ensuite bathroom with shower and small sitting area with private terrace. Other facilities include mini-fridge, tea/coffee making facilities and telephone. No air-conditioning is required as you are 3,500 ft up.
