Ceylon Tea Trails

Grade - Boutique First Class

Overview

High in tea country leave the main road behind and the landscape soon develops a softness, as the perfectly manicured tea bushes follow the folds of gently undulating hills and the narrow roads form ribbons that reveal one majestic vista after another, whether it be the tree studded estates, tea pickers hard at work or lake views. Within this stunning landscape you’re treated to a range of century old British tea estate managers’ bungalows that have been restored to their former glory. Everything comes together to create a feeling that you’ve been transported back to the 1920’s. If you’re going to push the boat out in one place this has to be it.

Facilities

Each of the 5 properties is exactly as you imagine a colonial tea plantation bungalow to be like: rooms with dark wood parquet floors & open fire places, wide verandas that lead out to landscaped gardens complete with herbaceous borders and magnificent views across the tea plantations. Whilst here you can hike through the estates from one bungalow to another, enjoy lunch, then either walk or be transported back. Mountain bikes are also available and some have kayaks for the lake, croquet, swimming pool and billiards room.

All stays include breakfast, three-course lunch (or picnic) high tea, four-course dinner with pre-dinner cocktails and canapés, all soft drinks and selected alcoholic drinks.

Rooms

All rooms and suites are decorated in keeping with the feel of the colonial era. Each features four poster beds, elegant bathrooms, some with verandas opening out onto private gardens. All have air-conditioning (some have open fires), Wi-Fi, minibar and butler service.

Mandira Bungalows

Grade - Boutique First Class

Overview

High in the hills of Hatton, Mandira is a collection of 3 colonial style tea planters’ bungalows that have been so immaculately restored that it’s as if the past 100 years hasn’t occurred. Set in some of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful countryside, a stay here is perfect for those looking to either relax and enjoy the serenity of hills or are keen to explore the estates on foot or by bike.

Facilities

Each of the bungalows consists of a living area and lounge, dining room and terraces. Meals can be served inside or in the garden and each is prepared based on guest preferences, but the Sri Lankan options are particularly recommended. Self-guided walking and cycling trails are there for those who want to explore independently.

Rooms

With only 3 to 5 historically atmospheric restored rooms in each bungalow, all are slightly different with a view of the gardens or tea estates. All have en-suite bathroom, coffee/tea maker, in room safe, satellite TV and Wi-Fi.
