By the time you join this tour you'll have noticed there is only really one way locals travel in Vietnam, by scooter. Tonight combine a wonderful city tour with tasting fantastic street food all from behind the handlebars of your very own Vespa scooter and driver. vespa saigonThe evening starts with a cocktail and appetizer at Café Zoom, home to Vietnam Vespa Adventures. Then meet your driver and vintage Vespa scooter ready to set off into the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh. First stop is Chinatown, famous for its eclectic social fabric and incredible street seafood. This is a quiet part of town and you’ll stop at a true local hotspot - few tourists ever make it this far out of town. Locals will be getting their fix of street food and winding down the day.

Back on the scooter you’ll head over to District 1 with a chance to see some of Ho Chi Minh City’s most iconic cultural highlights. The legendary local dish banh xeo is next on the menu. This southern Vietnamese specialty which looks like a pancake with a unique savoury flavour. Take a short hop to sample some live music and sip a traditional Vietnamese coffee alongside the locals. You’ll end the evening at one of Ho Chi Minh City’s best live music venues. Return transfer included.

Sitting across from some of downtown’s tallest buildings, the market hosts vendors selling everything from blue jeans to raw fish. In the produce section you will pick out all your ingredients to use in your class, but don’t worry your chef will on hand to guide you through all the weird and wonderful vegetables and herbs.

With your ingredients bagged, head to the Mai Home cooking class for a hands-on cooking lesson in a large traditional home. Vietnamese food is healthy and simple to cook, using many local fresh herbs, spices and vegetables. The class is designed for personalised attention and lots of fun. Try your hand at creating some typical dishes like fresh spring rolls or a claypot. After all the dishes have been made, sit down to lunch and taste your handiwork. Back at hotel mid-afternoon.

Saigon is a culinary adventure waiting to be explored and the evening is the perfect time to do so, taking in all of the places where the locals go to eat. After meeting your guide in the hotel lobby start your culinary adventure in Nguyen Dinh Chieu Alley, famous for its street food and the small pop up restaurants, a nightly feature that all but disappear during the day.

Hanoi Pho Experience 2Sink your teeth into the flavours of the South, from freshly grilled beef wrapped in tender and peppery wild betel leaf to the classic Vietnamese sandwich and rice paper pizza. Next up is a taste of banh xeo, a savoury crepe, fresh spring rolls and some local shellfish - a rustic delicacy in Saigon. Finish things off with a taste of one of the city’s most popular dishes, broken rice. In the past, it was the rejected rice grains that made up this ‘poor man’s rice dish’ however it is now enjoyed by many. The rice is served with roasted pork, pickled veg and a steamed egg cake drizzled with spring onion oil. Once you’ve had your full of incredible dishes, continue onward to a local night spot for a drink and chat, as the city’s wakes up for the evening.

Culture and performance art take centre stage this evening. The wonderful Saigon Opera House is the venue for the A O Show - a spectacular display of Vietnamese culture and performance art that combines both modern and classical elements.

AO Show sIt explores Vietnam’s history, the lives of its people and cultural traditions through an array of creative performances. The city’s most talented performance artists and traditional musicians use circus-like choreography and traditional props made from bamboo and wood to for example recreate the peaceful serenity of the Vietnamese countryside, the drama of life on the coast & at sea and the frenetic traffic in Hanoi and Saigon.

The show lasts for an hour after which you’ll take a short evening stroll along the wide boulevards of central Saigon to Hoa Tuc Restaurant - a real culinary and architectural gem. Once an Opium refinery, you can choose to dine within the restaurant or al fresco. After dinner you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.
